STEPHENVILLE, Texas—A new art exhibit featuring the works of Stephen Wilson will be on display in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center gallery, beginning Feb. 18.

The free exhibit, On 27th Street: The Art of Stephen Wilson, runs through March 23 and features many of the artist’s posters, paintings and digital art in the contemporary style. The exhibit coincides with the annual Tarleton Jazz Festival and will feature many of Wilson’s Tarleton jazz posters he has created over the past several years.

Wilson, manager of Tarleton’s Information Technology Services Department, has dabbled in art his entire life but recently undertook a project in which he challenged himself to paint 365 bird-themed works of art. “That project resulted in a Facebook fan page and I published an eBook with highlights from that project,” he said. “Several of the bird paintings from 2010 are in the exhibit, and I have been loaned several of my purchased paintings for this show.”

“I work primarily in acrylic, watercolor, ink on paper and canvas, and I also work in digital art using Illustrator and Photoshop,” Wilson said. “I prefer a flat design that emphasizes distinct lines and shapes. My goal is never to make much of a statement with my paintings. I am having fun and my drawings are playful.”

The public is invited to an artist’s reception in the Fine Arts Center gallery from 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21. The gallery is open to the public weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
