Theatre to present Pulitzer Prize-winning 'Glengarry Glen Ross'

Tarleton State University

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wednesday, October 31, 2012

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—David Mamet’s Tony, Olivier and Pulitzer Prize-winning play Glengarry Glen Ross will take the mainstage at the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center as the Theatre at Tarleton presents its second production of the 2012-13 season.

Directed by associate professor of fine arts Mark Holtorf, the theatrical production runs from Nov. 6-10 in the Fine Arts Center Theater with performances at 7:30 each evening.

The stakes are high at a fly by night Chicago real estate office: 1st prize, a new Cadillac; 2nd prize, a set of steak knives; 3rd prize, you’re fired! Glengarry slices to the core of the American dream and exposes the depths people will go to stay on top of the game. There is no room for losers in this office, and only “closers” will get the good Glengarry sales leads. They’re learning firsthand in business, someone always has to pay. Mamet himself worked in a real estate office in Chicago in 1969 setting up appointments for salesmen, and the play is influenced by the cutthroat politics he encountered.

Rated for mature audiences only due to very strong language and adult content, Glengarry Glen Ross marks its 30th anniversary of the play, which Mamet wrote in 1982. It premiered in the 1983-84 season at the Royal National Theatre in London, and is considered one of Mamet’s greatest works.

Currently on sale, tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for senior citizens, students and faculty and staff with a valid ID; and $5 for Tarleton students. The Box Office is open Monday through Friday, from 2-6 p.m. and from 2 p.m. until showtime on the nights of the performances. The Box Office opens at 6 p.m. for the Nov. 10 performance. Call 254-968-9634 for ticket information.
