Unlike service animals, ESAs do not perform specific tasks related to a disability but are meant to improve their owner’s emotional well-being. ESAs must be domesticated, well-behaved, and meet certain health requirements. Their access is generally limited to residential facilities, including common areas, and they are not permitted in all public spaces. To have an ESA in campus housing, students must submit a letter from a licensed professional outlining the need for the animal as part of their treatment.

FAQ

Is an in-training service animal allowed in public places?

Yes, in-training service animals are afforded the same access as service animals.
