Ranger Challenge is the Army ROTC Varsity Sport. The Ranger Challenge competition tests each team’s physical and teamwork abilities. The team forms early in the semester and trains rigorously nearly every morning of the week. Focusing on the basic infantry skills, squad-sized teams compete against other schools in the region on their abilities in rifle marksmanship, constructing a rope-bridge, patrolling, the Army Physical Fitness Test, land navigation, and a 12-mile road march. Teams train all the way up until the 5th Brigade (8 state region) Ranger Challenge Competition.

Cadets who compete in Ranger Challenge, earn the Ranger Challenge Tab which is the only United States Department of the Army individual qualification tab awarded exclusively to Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadets and approved by the Institute of Heraldry. This award is presented annually to cadets who compete in regional ROTC Ranger Challenge competitions.
