Every member of the Tarleton family has a personal responsibility to practice the simple behaviors that will keep us all safe. By adhering to these basics, we can stop the spread of COVID-19.
Wear Face Coverings
Tarleton’s requirement for face coverings aligns with CDC guidelines and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s Executive Order requiring all Texans in counties with 20 or more active COVID-19 cases to wear them in public. This includes in hallways, classrooms, labs, restrooms, elevators and offices where a physical distance of six feet is not possible.
Because physical distancing cannot be guaranteed in all interior spaces, face coverings shall be worn in the following areas including, but not limited to, all hallways, classrooms, labs, restrooms, elevators and offices.
Although face coverings are the preferred method to meet Gov. Greg Abbott’s Executive Order (GA-29), face shields are permitted in lieu of a face covering once faculty begin instruction and while students are seated within the classroom or instructional space. Outside of these situations, a face covering must be worn. Face shields should extend below the chin and wrap around the wearer's face.
Face coverings are required outdoors if safe physical distancing and gathering practices are not possible, and students not actively working out in the Campus Recreation Center are expected to wear them. Face coverings are not required inside individual residence hall rooms and apartments or in offices and classrooms occupied by only one person.
All students and employees will be provided one reusable face covering, and faculty can request a face shield to use while lecturing. Students, faculty and staff are responsible for any additional face coverings or shields they may need during the fall semester.
Students should contact Tarleton’s Office of Disability Services for an Americans with Disabilities Act exemption from coverings or shields for health- or disability-related exemptions. Those with religious- or creed-based concerns should contact the Dean of Students Administrative Office at 254-968-9080. Faculty and staff should contact Employee Services at 254-968-9128 for exemptions.
Students who report to class without a face covering or an exemption will be asked to receive course instruction online. Those who refuse will be reported to the Dean of Students Administrative Office via the Student Affairs Incident Reporting Form.
Practice Physical Distancing
Students, faculty, staff and visitors must maintain a physical distance of six feet in all areas of the campus, including offices, classrooms, labs, hallways, restrooms and common areas.
Clean and Sanitize
Regular cleaning and sanitizing of frequently touched surfaces is encouraged — doorknobs, light switches, sink handles, countertops, keyboards and cell phones. While cleaning crews are taking extra precautions to clean and disinfect public areas, students and employees can help by wiping down individual residential rooms and apartments, work spaces and equipment.
Hand sanitizing stations and sanitizing wipes are located across campus. To nudge good personal hygiene, directions for proper hand washing are located in public restrooms. The CDC recommends washing hands with soap and water for 20 seconds. Also avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
To reduce your risk of catching or spreading COVID-19, stay home if you feel sick, even if your symptoms are mild. Do not come to class or work. Opt for online learning or work if possible.
Students and employees who test positive for COVID-19 or who have symptoms are required to self-report. Faculty and staff also should tell their supervisor if they or a family member test positive. Supervisors will share positive test results to University Compliance and Employee Services as outlined in Tarleton’s Supervisor Guidance for Business Continuity.
