The Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) recommends that institutions ensure knowledgeable personnel\u2014such as Research Integrity and Compliance (RIC) staff and IRB members\u2014assist investigators in determining the appropriate status of their projects and confirming whether IRB review is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-tarleton-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5cd316d7abf45141d6a641f9fc0a6b7c\">Investigators should <strong>err on the side of caution<\/strong> and submit a inquiry <strong>to the Office of Research Compliance. <\/strong>These determinations must be made by the Office of Research Compliance staff or the IRB Chair\u2014not by individual investigators\u2014to ensure consistency, accuracy, and adherence to regulatory standards.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-advgb-tab advgb-tab-body-container\"><div class=\"advgb-tab-body-header advgb-tab-class- \" id=\"advgb-tab-panel-_5db644-05-4\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"advgb-tab-_5db644-05-4\" tabindex=\"0\"><span><strong>IRB Deadlines and Review Process<\/strong><\/span><\/div><div class=\"advgb-tab-_5db644-05 advgb-tab-body\" aria-labelledby=\"advgb-tab-panel-_5db644-05-4\" style=\"display:none\">\n<p class=\"has-tarleton-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ba87c52921242570fb382fce9b4fce4c\"><strong>Deadlines:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-tarleton-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-35a4d18e56e5261f47820426eefab69d\"><strong>Material requiring full board review must be submitted on or before the first of the month to be reviewed at that month&#8217;s meeting.<\/strong>&nbsp;Tarleton State University IRB Full Board meetings are generally scheduled for the last week of the month, pending holidays and scheduling conflicts. Due to the Federal Quorum requirements, meeting dates and times are subject to change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-tarleton-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8305c5df5a0c96f810690c94d65333e0\"><strong>Plan Ahead<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-tarleton-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-42153b32db3fe39bfa6d9e867786b314\">Investigators are strongly encouraged to submit materials well in advance of the deadline to allow sufficient time for questions or revisions prior to the scheduled board meeting. Submission deadlines apply <strong>only<\/strong> to protocols requiring <strong>Full Board Review<\/strong>. Deadlines <strong>do not<\/strong> apply to studies eligible for <strong>Exempt<\/strong> or <strong>Expedited<\/strong> review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-tarleton-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b7c32c7d09a4e9a55be3d6b3961c4689\">If you are unsure which review category your study may fall under, please contact <strong>irb@tarleton.edu<\/strong>. Review levels are ultimately determined at the discretion of the IRB reviewers, and it is often difficult to assign a category without a complete submission. Regulations also permit reviewers to elevate a study to a more rigorous review category when appropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-tarleton-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8970852cc04c789d5ef91de2e363df79\"><strong>Review Categories<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-tarleton-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-51b539552e63f027b5f31014cb0076eb\">All TSU studies involving <strong>Human Subjects Research<\/strong> must receive IRB review and approval <strong>before<\/strong> any research activities begin. Definitions of \u201cHuman Subjects Research\u201d can be found in <strong>45 CFR 46.102<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-tarleton-black-color has-text-color has-link-color
