Pass\/Fail Grade Mode<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The option to change to Pass\/Fail for Spring 2020 16 week and 2nd 8 week classes has ended as of June 1st at 5 PM. Any requests received after 5 PM on June 1st will not processed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 – How will a P (pass) grade affect my GPA?<\/h3><\/div>
\n

A P grade and credit hours to which it applies will not be included in your overall, institutional or term GPA. Thus a\u00a0P \u200bgrade\u00a0will have no impact on your GPA and is considered a passing grade. You will receive credit for the course just as if you received a normal letter grade.\u00a0\u200bEarning a P in an advanced course will still count as advanced hours.\u00a0\u200bIf you are applying for admission to a Tarleton degree or certificate program, are applying for admission to an external degree or certificate program, or are wanting the course credit to satisfy degree or program requirements that require a grade of C or better, please see question #4 below.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

2 – What constitutes a P, PC, or F?<\/h3><\/div>

Undergraduate students: A transcript notation of P means you have earned a D or better, a PC represents a C or better, and an F represents an F.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graduate Students: A transcript notation of P means you have earned a C or better, and a notation of F represents a D or F.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

3 – What will an F (fail) grade do to my GPA in Spring 2020?<\/h3><\/div>

For Spring 2020 only, a grade of F (either in standard or P\/F policy) will not be calculated into your term\u200b, institutional or overall GPA. A transcript notation will be added to every registered student\u2019s transcript indicating that F grades for spring 2020 are excluded from GPA calculations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graduate Students: For Spring 2020 only, a grade of D or F \u200b(either in standard or P\/F policy) will not be calculated into your term\u200b, institutional or overall GPA. 4 – What is a PC grade?<\/h3><\/div>

The PC grade option is for undergraduate students only, and indicates that you have passed the course with a C or better but it otherwise works exactly like P for GPA calculations; it does not impact GPA. You will receive credit for the hours and it may be used towards degree completion, especially\u00a0if a grade of C or better in the\u00a0course was required for your degree.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

5 – My degree requires a C or better or a B or better in one or more courses. Will P or PC be accepted to satisfy requirements?<\/h3><\/div>

Undergraduate Students: It is imperative that you speak with an advisor or your major department. If the course requires a C or Better, the PC grade will satisfy the requirement of C or Better but a P grade will not. For B or Better requirement, only the Standard grade mode with a B will satisfy that requirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graduate Students: A P will indicate you\u2019ve met catalog requirements to earn course credit at the graduate level.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

6 – What if I choose to keep the “Standard” grade mode?<\/h3><\/div>

You will receive the normal letter grades of A, B, C, D, or F. The F will be excluded from your term, overall and institutional GPA calculation for spring 2020 only. The other letter grades will be calculated in your term and overall GPA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7 – Will the school I am transferring to accept the P grade from Tarleton?<\/h3><\/div>

Undergraduate Students: It will depend on the school you plan to transfer to, but this is why Tarleton has opted to include the PC letter grade for undergraduate students to indicate the student received a grade of C or Better. The P grade option indicates an undergraduate made a D or Better as a D grade is passing at Tarleton. Some colleges, universities, and graduate programs do not accept D grades in transfer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graduate Students: A grade of P indicates a C or better. Please check with your institution on their policy regarding transfer courses\/grades.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

8 – How do I select the P\/F option for my section(s)?<\/h3><\/div>
\n

You may make this selection of Pass\/Fail for any section you are registered for in spring 2020 if the section currently has the Standard grade mode beginning on April 16th<\/sup>\u00a0through April 29th<\/sup>.\u00a0Instructions on how to change any eligible sections to Pass\/Fail can be found in the video below<\/strong>. If you were in certain Seminar sections, Thesis, or Student Teaching, these already have a built in option of Pass\/Fail, Satisfactory\/Unsatisfactory, or Progress. 9 – I am repeating a course I completed in a previous semester. Will the P or PC grade replace my previous grade?<\/h3><\/div>

At this time, the P or PC grade will not replace the previous letter grade but will be used to satisfy degree requirements, P for Passing and PC for C or better. If this changes, an update will be made on this FAQ.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

11 – What happens to my scholarship eligibility if I choose to receive P or PC grades?<\/h3><\/div>

For students who receive a P or PC grade in the spring semester, those will be counted as a passing grade for scholarship eligibility. It will not negatively impact your scholarship awards for the fall 2020 semester. However, changing your major, not participating in various programs, failure to demonstrate financial need and other requirements could impact your scholarship eligibility.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

12 – What happens if I receive an F in the Spring 2020 semester, how will that impact my scholarship eligibility?<\/h3><\/div>

For the spring 2020 semester, the Registrar’s Office is not counting F grades in the overall GPA. However, your overall grade point average will still be used to determine your scholarship eligibility. Semester grade point averages will typically be waived, as long as your overall grade point average is still meeting the eligibility requirements.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

13 – If I dropped course(s), how will that impact my scholarship eligibility?<\/h3><\/div>

For the spring 2020 semester, hours completed requirements will be waived if you are still meeting the overall grade point average requirements for the scholarship and other criteria, such as academic major, need (if required), participation in program, etc.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

14 – How will choosing a P\/F grade vs. taking a letter grade impact my scholarship eligibility for the Fall 2020 semester?<\/h3><\/div>

We will follow the guidelines set forth by the Registrar’s Office to calculate GPA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you choose a letter grade, we will use that to calculate GPA for the overall grade point average requirements. If you choose a P\/PC grade, we will note you had a passing semester and use the overall grade point average from the fall 2019 term to determine eligibility. Students must also meet criteria such as academic major, need (if required), participation in programs, etc.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

15 – When will I know what my scholarship award is for the Fall 2020 semester?<\/h3><\/div>

Committees are currently making scholarship selections for the 2020\/2021 academic year. If you are selected as a recipient, you will be notified by email.
