Withdrawing from the University

Withdrawing from the university means that a student will withdraw from all of their courses. Students may withdraw from all courses through myGateway prior to the first day of class for the current semester. Students who have pre-registered for classes and decide not to attend Tarleton should contact the Registrar's Office regarding withdrawing from the university.

Students are not automatically withdrawn from the university if they do not attend class. Students may be financially and academically impacted if they do not properly withdraw from the university.

Students attending classes off-campus, online, or who are unable to visit the campus may email the Office of the Registrar or call us at 254-968-9419 for more information on how to obtain the form.

Beginning on the first day of classes, students who wish to withdraw from the university must fill out an official withdrawal request form which can be obtained from the Registrar’s office:

Time of Withdrawal Result
Student withdraws before the beginning of the semester Use myGateway, all tuition fees will be reimbursed to the student, no impact on Official Transcript
Student withdraws on or before the last day to drop courses Obtain form from the Office of the Registrar, and the student receives a grade of W in all courses on Official Transcript
Withdrawing after the last day to drop courses Receives a grade of WF on Official Transcript. A student may appeal to the instructor for a grade change to W if he/she was passing at the time of withdrawal
  1. A student who fails to withdraw officially will receive a grade of F in all courses in progress.
  2. In circumstances where in-person withdrawal is not feasible, the student should call or write the Office of the Registrar and request an “Official Withdrawal Request Form.”
  3. In cases where the student is unable to contact our office him/herself because of medical reasons or other emergency situations, a spouse or family member can contact the Office of the Registrar on behalf of the student to get instructions on what needs to be done in order to assist the student in withdrawing
