Feeling adventurous?  Prove it.

Join Tarleton Outdoor Pursuits for an adventure! Come on either a day trip, a weekend trip, or our annual spring break trip. Our professional staff will guide you through your outdoor experience, encouraging you to step outside your comfort zone and have fun!

See below for more information about the trips we will be taking this semester.

Spring 2018

Prices of the weekend trips include transportation, food on location, entrance fees, and all equipment unless otherwise noted. On day trips, participants will need to provide their own lunch.

Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge

Camping, hiking, rock climbing

February 23-25

Indiahoma, OK


Enjoy a fun weekend of camping, hiking, and rock climbing at Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma. Watch a beautiful sunset from Mt. Scott, marvel at the view on Elk Mountain, and try your hand at outdoor rock climbing. This trip has something for everyone, beginner or advanced. Food on location, equipment, and transportation will be provided. Mandatory pre-trip meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 21st at 8PM in the Climbing Wall.


Lost Maples State Natural Area


Vanderpool, TX

March 2-4


Our first backpacking trip of the Spring semester will take us to Lost Maples State Natural Area in Vanderpool, TX. Lost Maples is home to one of the most beautiful landscapes in Texas. Both beginner and advanced participants are welcome, but be prepared to hike! Food on location, equipment, and transportation will be provided. Mandatory pre-trip meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 28st at 8PM in the Climbing Wall.


Zion National Park, Guadalupe Mountains, and the Grand Canyon

Zion National Park in Utah is a national treasure. Join Outdoor Pursuits this Spring Break on a road trip to this beautiful park. We will stop at Guadalupe Mountains to summit the tallest peak in Texas, then make our way to the Grand Canyon before arriving at Zion. This trip will be somewhat strenuous, so don’t take your registration lightly. Though beginners are welcome, this trip will take a lot of time and effort, but the experience will be breathtaking. Food on location, equipment, and transportation will be provided.

Dinosaur Valley State Park, TX

April 7


Dogs that hike are taking the country by storm. See if your dog has what it takes on a guided day of hiking at Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, TX. If you don’t have a furry friend, no worries. Check out the local animal shelter and see if they have any animals to adopt for the day, or for a lifetime! Transportation and lunch will not be provided. Mandatory pre-trip meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 4th at 8PM in the Climbing Wall (please leave your pets at home).


Broken Bow, OK

Beavers Bend State Park

April 13-15


Broken Bow, OK is one of the most beautiful places in the state. This trip is perfect for first-time or experienced campers that want to experience a lot of activities in a short amount of time. We will camp, hike, kayak, and even fish the stunning Lower Mountain Fork River, which is stocked with rainbow and brown trout. Food on location, equipment, and transportation will be provided. Mandatory pre-trip meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 11th at 8PM in the Climbing Wall.

Glen Rose, TX

April 21


Spend your Saturday kayaking before finals steal your time! On this guided trip, you will spend a relaxing but fun day on the Brazos River, near Glen Rose, TX. This day-trip includes all gear and equipment, but you will need to feed and transport yourself to the location. Carpool will be available. Mandatory pre-trip meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 18th at 8PM in the Climbing Wall.

Crate Climbing Social

February 7 ● 6PM – 8PM

If you’ve never heard of this challenge, just type “Crate Climbing” into YouTube and you’ll see what the excitement is about. Stack milk crates as you’re climbing on them to see fi you can set a Tarleton record! You’ll be attached to a rope in our Climbing Wall, keeping you suspended in the air, allowing you to climb even higher!

Backpacking 101

February 26 ● 5PM – 6PM & 7PM – 8PM

Learn basic backpacking skills from Outdoor Pursuits, then check out some gear and try it yourself! This clinic is free and open to the public. If you’re attending one of our backpacking trips this semester, we highly recommend attending this clinic.

Women’s Backpacking Basics

FREE lunch and PD point

Outdoor Pursuits is pairing with Fitness and Wellness to present Women’s Backpacking Basics. Basic backpacking clinics often don’t cover the extra stresses women deal with in the wild, so we’re happy to cover them for you at this clinic! Attendance earns your free lunch and a PD point!

Rappelling/Ziplining Clinic

March 28 ● 2PM – 6PM

Challenge Course


If you’ve never been to the Tarleton Challenge Course, here’s your chance! Our come-and-go Rappelling and Ziplining Clinic offers you the opportunity to climb our Tower, fifty-two feet in the air! Our experienced, professional staff will assist you throughout your experience, creating a fun environment for a challenging task.

Ice Cream Social
