Dear Colleagues,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the fall semester nearing, Tarleton State University is poised to soar to new heights as we celebrate our 125th anniversary over the next academic year. This milestone is our opportunity to honor our rich history and create unforgettable experiences for the entire Tarleton community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recent Texas A&M System Board of Regents meeting provided further momentum for our journey. The unwavering support of the regents and Chancellor John Sharp has been instrumental in our sustained growth and success. With their backing, our Tarleton Texans will continue to make a profound impact on our region, state and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preparing our students to adapt to the needs of an evolving world is central to our purpose as an institution of higher learning. To that end, we received permission from the regents to seek Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approval for three new academic programs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Doctor of Philosophy in Agricultural and Biological Engineering<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adding artificial intelligence and machine learning programs is critical as more companies around the world begin to recognize the benefits of AI. According to data from the Upwork Research Institute, weekly job posts looking for generative AI skills increased by more than 600% from the fourth quarter of 2022 to the first quarter of 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week at commencement we conferred the first Ph.D. in our history to Dr. Mark Brown, a former special agent who received his doctorate in criminal justice. The addition of the doctorate in agricultural and biological engineering continues our emphasis to provide increased options for students seeking a Ph.D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

True to the vision of our founder, access, opportunity and affordability remain key components of what makes our university special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In faculty news, I am pleased to announce that the regents approved our tenure recommendation for Dr. Emran El-Badawi, Dean of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts. Dr. El-Badawi\u2019s first day at Tarleton will be Aug. 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also confirmed were the appointments of Terry Porter and Michael Viehmann as peace officers. Our incredible University Police Department works tirelessly to create a safe community on campus, reflected by Tarleton State being ranked 18th in the \u201c50 Safest Large Colleges and Universities\u201d list by CollegeChoice last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each new academic year presents an opportunity to continue our ascent toward becoming the premier comprehensive university in the nation. Thank you for your hard work in providing a transformative educational experience centered around student success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
