Program for Astronomy Education & Research

TSU's Program for Astronomy Education and Research provides students with the opportunity to undertake significant astronomical research using our 32" telescope and, through our outreach programs, shares the wonders of the universe in our planetarium and via shows that we produce.

Our observatory, located on Tarleton's Hunewell Ranch east of Stephenville, utilizes a 32" Ritchey-Chretien reflecting telescope designed and fabricated by Astronomical Consultants and Equipment of Tucson, AZ. The computer controlled, high resolution CCD imaging system ensures accurate image capture for either research or projection.

Interested in live online viewing through the Tarleton 32 inch telescope

Are you curious if you can view through the Tarleton Telescope from the comfort of your home to spend an evening with friends and family, or to celebrate a special event with loved one's. Then consider booking the telescope for your own private night anywhere from 1 - 3 hours. You will even receive images in an email if you want. An observatory staff person will operate the telescope for you and show you some deep sky objects available for that night or better yet your favorite astronomical object that is available on that night. For details and pricing to book the telescope email Dr. Shaukat Goderya at

Professional and Amateur Astronomers

Interested in buying telescope time to use the Tarleton 32 inch telescope to obtain photometry data. We are setup to do UBVRI photometry for up to 17th magnitude stars. One of our observatory staff will operate the telescope for you. For details and pricing to buy telescope time email Dr. Shaukat Goderya at

Donate to Tarleton Observatory

Your donations will go towards operations and maintenance of the observatory and to help our undergraduate students carry out their astronomical research projects. Email Dr. Shaukat Goderya at to find out how to make your donations.
