{"id":55612,"date":"2026-09-10T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/?p=55612"},"modified":"2026-09-09T16:12:23","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T21:12:23","slug":"yellow-ribbon-program-supports-out-of-state-student-veterans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/yellow-ribbon-program-supports-out-of-state-student-veterans\/","title":{"rendered":"Yellow Ribbon Program Supports Out-of-State Student Veterans"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Tarleton State University has signed on with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to offer its student veterans yet another valuable resource to help pay for their college education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Yellow Ribbon Program helps cover tuition and fees beyond Post-9\/11 GI Bill<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> benefits at private, out-of-state, foreign and graduate schools. The university joined the program in the spring and it became active this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur veterans have invested in our country, and Tarleton State is committed to investing in their success,\u201d said Dr. Sherri Benn, Vice President for Global, Community and First-gen Initiatives. \u201cThe Yellow Ribbon Program is another way we can remove barriers and expand opportunity for those who have served.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tarleton State Director of Veteran Services Stephanie Kittelson said the program benefits the university\u2019s Post-9\/11 GI Bill students who live out of state by allowing the university and the VA to share the cost of nonresident tuition that the Post-9\/11 GI Bill does not cover. The university provides a scholarship to pay half of a qualifying student\u2019s tuition and fees, and the VA pays the other half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBecoming a Yellow Ribbon school strengthens our commitment to those who have served by helping make education more affordable,\u201d said Kittelson. \u201cWe\u2019re proud to provide another meaningful way to support our veterans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Funds cannot be applied to room and board, housing or parking fines.
