{"id":54806,"date":"2026-01-29T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/?p=54806"},"modified":"2026-02-18T10:12:40","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T16:12:40","slug":"tarleton-states-rodeo-teams-open-spring-slate-in-fort-worth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/tarleton-states-rodeo-teams-open-spring-slate-in-fort-worth\/","title":{"rendered":"Tarleton State\u2019s Rodeo Teams Open Spring Slate in Fort Worth"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Tarleton State University\u2019s rodeo teams each return to action Feb. 2-4 in the Fort Worth Stock Show Collegiate Rodeo at the Will Rogers Coliseum.The Cowtown event marks the beginning of the spring portion of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association\u2019s 2025-26 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams both lead the NIRA Lone Star Region standings after stellar performances in the fall campaign. The men, defending national champions, accumulated 2,675 points in the season\u2019s first half, more than 1,100 points better than second-place Weatherford College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The women carry a 190-point lead over WC, gathering 1,375 points in the fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tarleton State\u2019s men, winners of four of the first five rodeos, are led by bareback and saddle bronc rider Clay Greenslade, who is the all-around leader at the break. Additionally, Taylon Carmody sits atop the leaderboard in bareback riding, Brodey Clemons is the region\u2019s top tie-down roper and bull rider Brenson Barlett is also in first as the team heads to Fort Worth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though Tarleton State does not hold the top spot in saddle bronc riding, nine of the region\u2019s top 10 in the event are on the team led by second-place Waitley Sharon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Tarleton State women are paced by barrel racer and goat tyer Rylee Abel, who leads the chase for the all-around crown.
