STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Tarleton State University was lauded for its access and student outcomes in the 2025 Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new Carnegie Classifications are designed to make the designations more useful, relevant and reflective of the nation\u2019s ever-evolving higher education landscape. They are published every three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHaving access to a quality, affordable education can change the trajectory of a student\u2019s life,\u201d said Tarleton State President Dr. James Hurley. \u201cWith every graduate that walks across the stage at commencement, we are helping to meet critical workforce needs. Their success is our fundamental purpose, and our new Carnegie designations illustrate that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Almanac, Tarleton State leads all four-year institutions in Texas with 84.8% of graduates employed or enrolled in a master\u2019s program. Continuing a trend of impressive growth, Tarleton\u2019s fall 2024 enrollment reached a record of nearly 18,000 students from 228 Texas counties, 48 states and 40 countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tarleton State\u2019s institutional classification for 2025 is \u201cProfessions-focused Undergraduate\/Graduate-Master\u2019s Large\/Medium\u201d and its student access and earning classification is \u201cHigher Access, Medium Earnings.\u201d To view the full 2025 Carnegie Classifications, visit https:\/\/carnegieclassifications.acenet.edu\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Just 3% of U.S. colleges and universities hold the same institutional classification as Tarleton State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Earlier this year, Tarleton State\u2019s research activity designation was once again distinguished as Carnegie R2. The official name of the designation was updated to \u201cResearch 2: High Research Spending and Doctorate Production.\u201d There are only 139 institutions nationally with this classification. The university\u2019s investment in research has nearly doubled over the last five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n All Carnegie Classifications rely on publicly accessible data to classify institutions.
