AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 A delegation of over 125 faculty, staff and students from Tarleton State University filled the statehouse in Austin with purple for the university\u2019s Day at the Capitol today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the contingent met with legislators and their staffs to share and celebrate Tarleton State\u2019s 125 years of storied access, opportunity and affordability. Five interns are representing the university in the 89th legislative session in Austin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is always an honor to visit the Capitol to discuss the ways in which we can help meet the evolving needs of Texas,\u201d said Tarleton State President Dr. James Hurley. \u201cFrom healthcare to education and agriculture to engineering, our talented Texans are filling the workforce in numerous key areas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tarleton State group started the morning with a welcome from state Senator Brian Birdwell (District 22) and state Rep. Shelby Slawson (District 59). Birdwell and Slawson then sponsored resolutions recognizing Tarleton\u2019s contributions to the Lone Star State for the past 125 years. The resolutions were read from the Senate and House floors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday\u2019s resolution is a deserved recognition of the important work that Tarleton State is doing in Texas,\u201d said Birdwell. \u201cI would like to congratulate Tarleton\u2019s faculty, staff and proud alumni for 125 Years of Excellence in Texas. With a rapid growth trajectory, the future is bright.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That sentiment was echoed by Slawson. \u201cHaving Tarleton State Day at the Capitol on Purple Thursday was a fitting way to celebrate the university\u2019s impact throughout Texas. Tarleton\u2019s transformative efforts to address workforce demands in key areas like healthcare and education enhance the quality of life for all Texans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

School spirit was on full display throughout the day, highlighted by the Tarleton State choir performing the 125th commemorative song \u201cStewards of the Fire,\u201d among others, in the rotunda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
