STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 The Mayfield College of Engineering at Tarleton State University will officially take applications for its new Bachelor and Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI\/ML) degree programs starting in spring 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This cutting-edge field of study is uniquely designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in a technological concentration that is becoming increasingly sought after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe introduction of these two new degrees in Artificial Intelligence will establish a robust talent pipeline in a rapidly expanding field essential to Texas\u2019 economy,\u201d said Dr. Rafael Landaeta, Dean of the Mayfield College of Engineering. \u201cLeveraging our strong industry partnerships and an innovative, cutting-edge curriculum, the bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s programs in AI will prepare graduates with advanced skills critical for driving high-level innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis expertise will support transformative progress across vital sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, education, cybersecurity, manufacturing, energy and national defense \u2014 industries foundational to Texas\u2019 economic resilience and growth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Courses within this program give students a broad introduction to AI and the relevant science and mathematics concepts needed to understand the field. This is followed by in-depth study of the main areas of AI, such as neural networks, computer vision, robotics, autonomous systems and reinforcement learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Initial courses will be available for first- and second-year students starting January 2025 and will open to junior- and senior-level students beginning in the fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe new programs will allow our students to benefit from state-of-the-art computing infrastructure, technical expertise and research in AI and ML available in our college and department,\u201d explained Dr. Mircea Agapie, Department Head for Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. \u201cThese programs will extend our existing bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s programs into an area that is of great technological and scientific relevance today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The field of AI\/ML offers a broad range of career opportunities across various industries, including positions like machine learning engineers, data scientists, AI research scientists, software engineers, business intelligence developers and AI product managers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jobs such as these are predicted to skyrocket, with the need for professionals in this field becoming more pressing. This new addition to Tarleton State\u2019s academic catalog will ensure that students, current and future, have access to a field of study relevant to the technological advancements and economic growth of the region, state and world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
