STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Tarleton State University professor Dr. Alex del Carmen has been named as a fellow in the sixth cohort of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities Leadership Academy\/La Academia de Liderazgo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associate Dean of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts, Dr. del Carmen leads the School of Criminology, Criminal Justice and Public Administration at Tarleton State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHaving been named an HACU fellow is a huge honor for me and compliments the work I am currently performing at Harvard\u2019s Graduate School of Education,\u201d said Dr. del Carmen. \u201cBeing an HACU Fellow will allow me to further contribute to higher education leadership while fostering growth among the next generation of scholars and leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores said the Leadership Academy\/La Academia de Liderazgo has a proven record of advancing leaders within a wide range of higher education institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are proud of our previous cohorts in how they have moved into the upper ranks of academia with speed and fully expect this current cohort to match if not exceed our alums in successfully breaking into leadership roles across the nation,\u201d Flores said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2024-25 cohort of 45 fellows represents a wide range of educational institutions across the country. Fellows participate in an array of leadership development activities preparing them for roles in the full spectrum of institutions of higher learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The one-year fellowship program includes webinars and three seminars. The first seminar takes place in October in conjunction with HACU\u2019s 38th Annual Conference in Aurora, Colo. The second will be held in Washington, D.C., next April at HACU\u2019s National Capitol Forum. The date and international location of the third seminar are still to be determined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Leadership Academy faculty consists of current and former presidents, chancellors and senior administrators with more than 100 years of combined experience in various sectors of higher education, including private and public universities, community colleges and faith-based institutions. Mentorship with a university president or senior-level administrator is a key component, as well as the development of a special project designed to have an impact at the fellow\u2019s current institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
