Grant Humanities Building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Admission to the show is free and will tell the story of four generations of the family, who have found, recorded, preserved, promoted and presented unique American music for over 140 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2024\/09\/John_Lomax_III.jpg\" alt=\"John Lomax III\" class=\"wp-image-51670\" style=\"width:361px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2024\/09\/John_Lomax_III.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2024\/09\/John_Lomax_III-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2024\/09\/John_Lomax_III-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2024\/09\/John_Lomax_III-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>John Lomax III<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI sing some of the best known of the cowboy songs John Avery Lomax discovered as well as selections by my father, John Avery Lomax Jr., Uncle Alan and Aunt Bess Lomax Hawes,\u201d Lomax III, 80, said of the solo, acapella show. \u201cI talk about the songs, the circumstances of their discovery and I mention the work of some of the lesser-known Lomax family members.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John Avery Lomax and his son Alan obtained more than 17,000 field recordings of American songs, stories, church services, narratives and children\u2019s play-party games that became the basis of the American Folk Song Archive in the Library of Congress.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Collectively, the Lomax family has produced 52 books, dating from John Avery Lomax\u2019s 1910&nbsp;\u201cCowboy Songs and Other Frontier Ballads\u201d&nbsp;to Anna Lomax Wood\u2019s&nbsp;\u201cSongs of Earth\u201d&nbsp;published in June 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The performance will bring Lomax III close to the old family homestead in Bosque County, near Meridian.
