STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Dr. Matt Maruska has been named Tarleton State University\u2019s first Chief Medical Officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the role, Dr. Maruska will serve as Medical Director for campus health and well-being. He will also be the Head Team Physician for Tarleton State Athletics while managing the direction of student health and wellness activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2014, he has worked with patients at Cross Timbers Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine (CTO) in Stephenville, specializing in the non-surgical treatment of all orthopedic or sports injuries and musculoskeletal conditions. As part of the position, he has handled team physician duties for Tarleton State, Stephenville High School, Ranger College, John Paul Stevens High School, the University of the Incarnate Word, the University of Texas at San Antonio and Waco ISD varsity football.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has also served as Medical Director for Tarleton State\u2019s Master of Science in Athletic Training program since 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Maruska\u2019s impact will be instrumental in assuring our entire student body has access to excellent medical care,\u201d said Tarleton State President Dr. James Hurley. \u201cWe are committed to elevating the healthcare and well-being of our campus community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Maruska will lead the on-campus Student Wellness Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m very excited and thankful for the opportunity to help guide Tarleton State University forward,\u201d said Dr. Maruska. \u201cUnder my leadership as the new Chief Medical Officer, our goal will be to help improve medical services for the whole student body. I would like to thank President Hurley and The Texas A&M System for this amazing opportunity and look forward to getting started this summer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Maruska holds a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center-Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine where he completed the inaugural Rural Osteopathic Medical Education Program. He also has a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical science from Texas A&M where he graduated cum laude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He serves on the medical advisory committee for the Western Athletic Conference and is a state delegate for the Erath and Summerville County Medical Association.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
