She follows outgoing Commander Zemoni Hopkins in the organization\u2019s second consecutive female-to-female change of command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trammell-Coburn, from Fort Worth, will take the reins in a change of leadership ceremony at 5 p.m. Friday at the O.A. Grant Ampitheater on the Stephenville campus.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>She is a junior biomedical science (pre-veterinarian) major pursuing minors in chemistry and leadership studies. Upon graduation from Tarleton State, she plans to apply to the Texas A&amp;M Veterinary School prior to direct commissioning into the U.S. Army as a veterinarian. Ultimately, she hopes to serve on a state or national veterinary regulatory board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am very honored to be entrusted as the next Corps Commander,\u201d she said. \u201cThe Corps of Cadets, as (Tarleton State President) Dr. (James) Hurley says, is the \u2018Pride of Tarleton.\u2019 It is my mission for the upcoming year to uphold that standard of pride, going above and beyond to build students into leaders that will serve diligently across our nation, both in the military and civilian sectors.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In all, four cadets were identified to fill senior leadership positions within the Corps of Cadets. Besides Trammell-Coburn, Leonard Scott from Stafford will become deputy corps commander, Jake Broadway from Joshua will be installed as operations officer and Carter McKay from Granbury will join the leadership team as command sergeant major.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cadets complete a thorough selection process that consists of an application and an interview with a panel of peers and staff. All applicants are evaluated on academic performance, performance in the Corps, success in previous leadership positions, peer and staff evaluations, and their leadership vision for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe change of command ceremony is another defining moment for the Tarleton Corps of Cadets,\u201d said Col. Douglas L. Simon, Commandant of Cadets and Dean of the Leadership and Military College. \u201cThe Corps is grateful for the tremendous leadership of Cadet Zemoni Hopkins as the outgoing Corps commander, but we are equally grateful that Cadet Amber Trammel-Coburn as the incoming Corps Commander is ready to assume command.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Established in 1917 when John Tarleton College became part of The Texas A&amp;M System, the Texan Corps of Cadets went inactive in 1954 when male students were no longer required to be in the corps. In 1972, restrictions limiting full participation of women in ROTC were lifted, and the corps was reinstituted in 2016 as coed.&nbsp;\u201cGreat leaders make great organizations,\u201d said Col Simon. \u201cWe have been fortunate to have been blessed with fantastic leaders like Cadet Hopkins and Cadet Trammell-Coburn.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Amber Trammell-Coburn has been tabbed the new student commander for the Tarleton State University Corps of Cadets.
