STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 The Tarleton State University Latin Jazz Ensemble hits the stage of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 29, for its spring concert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ensemble will present a program showcasing rhythms and melodies of Cuba and Cuban-influenced jazz. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Joining them will be the Tarleton Jazz Combo 1, performing an opening set of small group jazz, beginning with Kenny Garrett\u2019s \u201cWayne\u2019s Thang,\u201d and followed by the Miles Davis\/Victor Feldman composition, \u201cSeven Steps to Heaven,\u201d \u201cEvidence,\u201d by Thelonious Monk,\u201d and Jimmy Heath\u2019s \u201cGingerbread Boy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Latin band will lead off their set with \u201cRan Kan Kan\u201d by Tito Puente followed by Abelardo Vald\u00e9s\u2019 \u201cAlmendra,\u201d \u201cMambo Inn\u201d by Mario Bauza, and Professor Connor Kent-arranged \u201cPassion Dance\u201d by McCoy Tyner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Latin Jazz Ensemble, directed by Kent, includes William Cazares on flute and alto saxophone; Devon Armstrong on tenor saxophone; Acacia Johnson on trombone; Jackson Griffith on bass; Brody Custer on drums; and Abbye Nash on percussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Tarleton Jazz Combo 1, also directed by Kent, features alto saxophonist Nicholas Dorazil, Mattias Piatt on tenor saxophone; Alan Gutierrez on trombone; Jackson Griffith on bass; and drummer Brody Custer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
