STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Online students at Tarleton State University, across all locations, have a new resource for recognition and engagement with the establishment of an Omega Nu Lambda (ONL) honor society chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the formation of the Alpha Alpha Chapter, Tarleton State is the first public university in Texas to join ONL, making its resources and recognition opportunities available to students enrolled in Tarleton Online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRecognizing the unique challenges of online learning, which demand strong time management, self-motivation and dedication, establishing an ONL chapter is a way for Tarleton Online to acknowledge and celebrate the remarkable commitment of our online scholars,\u201d said Dr. Tiffany Carey, Tarleton’s new Assistant Dean of Online Learning and Innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Omega Nu Lambda is the only national collegiate honor society exclusive to online students. Because virtual learners often lack proximity to join campus clubs and organizations, ONL membership can provide a sense of community through networking with other ONL members, as well as academic recognition and scholarship opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Students are eligible to join after completing 15 hours of online studies and maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.2 (3.65 for graduate students). Dr. Carey said Tarleton Online students who have met the distinguished criteria can expect an email after spring break with information about joining the campus chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt Tarleton State, fostering a sense of belonging for online students is a top priority. We want them to feel deeply connected to Tarleton\u2019s traditions, culture and the spirit of our community from wherever they are,\u201d said Dr. Carey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
