STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Tarleton State University\u2019s Erath Engaged, a leading voice for county residents, will host \u201cBlack Health and Wealth,\u201d a Zoom summit, at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29. The event focuses on how income and debt can negatively affect health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Four central topics will be explored \u2014 intergenerational wealth transfer and health outcomes, nutritional health and food justice, mental health, and financial literacy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The opening session, to be presented by Dr. Jennifer T. Edwards, Professor of communication studies, will address generational wealth and how it impacts health access, preventive care and well-being in the Black community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Subi Gandhi, Associate Professor of public health, follows with an exploration of the impact of food insecurity on nutritional health and the promotion of culturally informed diets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Counseling Assistant Professor Dr. LaShondra Manning will highlight the importance of mental health awareness and access in Black communities. She also will discuss the stigma surrounding mental health in communities of color. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Juan Gallardo, Director of the Texan Smart Financial Center, will facilitate the final session on \u201cFinancial Literacy Basics for Building Wealth,\u201d featuring aspects of budgeting, debt management, saving strategies and credit building. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
