STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Tarleton State University student Gizelle Hernandez has been selected as one of 14 students granted a three-week study abroad trip to Costa Rica this summer. She is a member of the elite Texas Leadership Scholars program led by Dr. Elizabeth Wallace, Assistant Vice President for the Lozano-Long Division for Global, Community and First-Gen Initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs one of 18 founding universities, Tarleton State University is honored to be a sought-after\u00a0hope and inspiration for these individuals who will lead our state, nation and world,\u201d Dr. Wallace said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese Texans are forming a strong network of scholars they will call lifelong friends and will be able to call on for wisdom and support as they lead our schools, communities and vital organizations as engaged community members.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hernandez, a President\u2019s List honor student from Fort Worth majoring in psychology with a minor in business, was chosen from among 500 Texas Leadership Scholars statewide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She will be in Costa Rica from May 25-June 9, earn credit in the Women Entrepreneurship and Sustainability course taught by instructors at the Universidad Veritas, and spend time in the local culture and ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHaving the opportunity to be part of a hands-on experience like this has been a great blessing,\u201d Hernandez said. \u201cThis not only provides a once-in-a-lifetime experience but also a whole new perspective. It will immerse me in a different culture and the traditions of a different society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBeing a part of Texas Leadership Scholars continues to motivate me to accomplish my biggest goals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her selection includes all expenses covered for her flights, transportation, lodging, two weekend excursions and meals. The total award exceeds $5,000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tarleton Texas Leadership Scholars program began in fall 2022. The scholars are selected through a partnership with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and receive board designated tuition, fees, and room and board for all four years of their undergraduate education as well as having the opportunity for additional outstanding opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of the 500 students in the program, 24 are from Tarleton State.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
