STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Tarleton State University\u2019s Department of Visual Arts and Design has announced the exhibition \u201cStudies\u201d running through March 7 in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Gallery in Stephenville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exhibition showcases the work of students who were enrolled in an independent study course with Artist in Residence Letitia Huckaby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBy definition, a study is the devotion of time and attention to acquiring knowledge on an academic subject and that is exactly what these students have achieved with their rigorous focus and dedication to their individual projects,\u201d Huckaby said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The show features various genres of art, including portraiture, mixed media and 3D modeling, exhibiting the diverse styles of Tarleton State art students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Huckaby also has work in the show. Her pieces explore Black American heritage, cultural traditions and faith and are in several prestigious collections, among them the Library of Congress, the McNay Art Museum, the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, the Brandywine Workshop in Philadelphia, and the Samella Lewis Contemporary Art Collection at Scripps College in Claremont, Calif. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her work was featured in the 2023 exhibition \u201cEmancipation: The Unfinished Project of Liberation\u201d<\/em> organized by the Amon Carter Museum of American Art and Williams College. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Huckaby is a cofounder of Kinfolk House, a collaborative project space that inhabits a 100-year-old historic home, where community and art converge in the predominantly Black and Latina\/e\/o Polytechnic neighborhood in Fort Worth.
