STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 The Tarleton State University Jazz 1 ensemble presents \u201cThad Jones and the Modern Big Band\u201d at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, in the auditorium of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center in Stephenville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jones was a virtuoso jazz trumpet player, composer and arranger, notably with the Count Basie Orchestra and the Thad Jones\/Mel Lewis Orchestra. His \u201cGroove Merchant,\u201d \u201cConsummation,\u201d \u201cThree & One,\u201d \u201cBasic-Ally Yours\u201d and \u201cTip Toe\u201d highlight the concert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Toshiko Akiyoshi\u2019s \u201cAfter Mr. Teng,\u201d \u201cHang Gliding\u201d by Maria Schneider and \u201cMoanin\u2019 \u201d by Charles Mingus round out the set list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
