STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Three cowgirls finished in the top five in goat tying to lead the Tarleton State women\u2019s rodeo team to a first-place finish at the weekend Vernon College Rodeo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tarleton accumulated 315 points to take top honors in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Southwest Region stop and maintain their lead in the regional standings after the fall season\u2019s third stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Emily McDeavitt flashed a two-head 12.6 to top all goat tyers<\/a>, Rayme Jones posted a pair of 6.5s for a second-place 13.0 in the average, and Tori Brower\u2019s 7.1-6.8\u201313.9 was good for fourth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Barrel racer Acey Pinkston was second overall at Vernon with her 34.59 combined time on runs of 17.27 and 17.32, and Kinlie Brennise added a fifth-place 2.4-11.9\u201314.3 in breakaway roping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Tarleton State men\u2019s team finished third over the weekend with 395 points, just 15 off the pace set by first-place Texas Tech and five behind runner-up Western Texas College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Saddle bronc rider Bailey Small earned an 80 to win the long go, then turned in a finals-best 85 for a first-place 165.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Team roper Korbin Rice and partner Creed West of Cisco College roped their first steer in a scant 5.0 seconds, best in the preliminary round, then added a 6.1 in the finals for their two-head 11.1 and first in the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Steer wrestler Landris White\u2019s 3.6 was best in the steer wrestling finals.
