STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Dr. Deborah Liles, Tarleton State University\u2019s W.K. Gordon Center Endowed Chair in Texas History, will discuss using probate documents for genealogical and academic research at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the W. K. Gordon Museum and Research Center for the Industrial History of Texas in Thurber. A Q&A session will follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The free presentation, part of the Gordon Center\u2019s Tuesday Talks series, will illustrate what happens to property when the owner dies. Dr. Liles\u2019 experience at delving into probate records provides a fascinating glimpse into the lives of individuals as well as how to apply this data to research projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Participants are urged to bring their own research for tips on more rewarding exploration. She teaches history with an emphasis on Texas, women, slavery, local communities and ranching; works with the W.K. Gordon Museum and Research Center; and serves on the board of several historical associations statewide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The W. K. Gordon Museum and Research Center, a facility of Tarleton State University, is at 65258 Interstate 20, Exit 367, in Mingus and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays and 1-4 p.m. Sundays.
