STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Beginning fall 2023, Godley High School students can earn university credit before they graduate, thanks to Tarleton State University\u2019s dual enrollment program, Tarleton Today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tarleton and Godley Independent School District leaders signed the agreement April 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis partnership strengthens our commitment to educational attainment for all<\/em> Texans,\u201d said Tarleton President James Hurley. \u201cEarning university credit while learning the expectations of higher education helps high school students bridge the transition to college while also saving them money.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tarleton already collaborates with more than 350 school districts statewide, including Godley, through its nationally acclaimed Distinguished High School Partners outreach. Launched in 2020, the program guarantees admission and provides annual scholarships to qualifying seniors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Students participating in Tarleton Today take university courses over a traditional school year, receiving the high school portion of their instruction from their high school teacher and the university portion from a Tarleton professor. In addition to course content, Tarleton faculty empower students with university-ready skills and provide professional development for collaborating teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cGodley ISD is excited to offer dual enrollment classes through the Tarleton Today program with initial offerings in college algebra, animal science and agricultural economics,\u201d said Dr. Rich Dear, Godley ISD Superintendent. \u201cThis is an affordable option for many Godley students to earn college credit while still in high school. Moreover, tuition is waived for our economically disadvantaged students, making this a game changer for many of those who will be first-generation college students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe look forward to a long relationship with Tarleton to bring high-quality courses to our high school.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tarleton is developing dual enrollment opportunities in agricultural and STEM areas with school districts throughout Texas. Districts choose the courses they offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dual enrollment classes use the same lesson materials and learning objectives as courses taught at a Tarleton campus.
