STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Tarleton State University ROTC Cadet Jacee Halliday has been nominated to receive the Texas Armed Services Scholarship by District 59 Rep. Shelby Slawson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

State Rep. Slawson was on campus Sept. 27 to make the announcement in a morning ceremony in the Administration Building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Halliday, a Cadet Army S3 Operations and Training Officer, is a junior political science major. She received the Army Judge Advocate General Internship and is a member of the Texan Battalion Ranger Challenge Team serving as the Platoon Leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe opportunity to nominate a student for this award is a privilege but also a challenge to select from among numerous exceptional students who are committed to serving in the armed forces after college,\u201d Rep. Slawson said. \u201cJacee\u2019s academic excellence and commitment to her community stand out among an impressive field. She is a product of our public schools, hailing from Lipan ISD, and she has been a notable leader during her time at Tarleton. It is with great honor that I nominate her for this scholarship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each year the Texas governor and lieutenant governor may each appoint two students, and state senators and state representatives may each appoint one student to win the $10,000 award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Legislature created the scholarship to assist promising students from the state who are committed to education and service. It encourages young leaders to participate in the Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, Texas State Guard, U.S. Coast Guard or U.S. Merchant Marine, or to become commissioned officers in any branch of the armed services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
