STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 The top tiers of the early standings at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., have a decidedly purple tint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Saddle bronc riders Brody Wells and Cash Wilson are in second and third place, respectively, after their first rides Sunday, and breakaway ropers Maddy Deerman and Sarah Angelone are tied for fifth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wells, the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Southwest Region 2021-2022 saddle bronc champion, earned an 80 Sunday. Wilson is a single point back with a first-round 79. They trail only McNeese cowboy Ryder Sanford\u2019s 83.5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both bronc riders will make their second rides during today\u2019s slack performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Angelone, a two-time reigning Southwest Region champ, and Deerman, in her second straight CNFR, each posted 2.4 times, just .5 off the first-place 1.9 of Texas Tech roper Kaytlyn Miller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Angelone will rope her second calf today, and Deerman returns to action Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tie-down roper Brayden Roe, team ropers Brett Stuart and Mason Pitts, and steer wrestlers Walt Arnold and Ty Allred all make their first runs today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
