STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Tarleton State University\u2019s Student Media Department captured seven awards at the recent Texas Intercollegiate Press Association annual convention in Fort Worth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur student media students take so much pride in knowing that they leave a lasting impact on Tarleton Texans by creating two of Tarleton\u2019s oldest traditions,\u201d said Caitlyn Oxford, Coordinator for Student Media. \u201cIt is very rewarding when they get to see their hard work recognized at TIPA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am so proud of our students\u2019 hard work and dedication to produce high-quality publications that capture Tarleton\u2019s history forever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The JTAC,<\/em> Tarleton\u2019s official student newspaper, earned six awards, including Editor-in-Chief Blake Smith\u2019s first place and third place in the general column category and second place in headline writing. Fall 2021 Creative Editor Alina Rangel placed first in general news photo and third in feature photos for her pictures of the 2021 L.V. Risinger Memorial Bonfire. Spring 2020 and fall 2021 Editor-in-Chief Cassie Labay placed third in sports action photos for her shot from a Texan football game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Grassburr<\/em>, Tarleton\u2019s yearbook, placed third overall in yearbook cover design (by 2020-2021 Editor-in-Chief Hannah Bahlman). Walsworth Yearbooks recognized The Grassburr<\/em> in Possibilities, <\/em>Vol. 9, the company\u2019s inspiration and premier idea book for yearbooks around the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The JTAC <\/em>and The<\/em> Grassburr<\/em> competed with two- and four-year schools from across the state, including Texas A&M and Baylor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Grassburr<\/em> yearbook was first published in 1916, and the JTAC<\/em> debuted three years later.
