STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 A team of Tarleton State University students placed second at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) concrete Frisbee competition last week in Houston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event was part of the annual ASCE Texas-Mexico Student Symposium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tarleton\u2019s team \u2014 Raul Sandoval, Tovar Briones and Anthony Alvarez \u2014 created concrete disks that are aesthetically pleasing and not only fly but don\u2019t break on landing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The competition provides a hands-on experience to develop problem-solving skills related to engineering and implement principles of concrete mix design, aerodynamics and structural testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two technical aspects, mix design and technical poster, make up the conference. Scoring is based on durability, aesthetics, distance and accuracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
