STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Tarleton State University will observe Silver Taps at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, to honor members of the university family \u2014 alumni, faculty, staff and friends \u2014 who passed away during the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Part of Tarleton Founder\u2019s Week, this year\u2019s ceremony takes place at Alumni Island in the heart of the Stephenville campus. The public is invited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Founder\u2019s Week activities include Grassburr Fest, a preview of the new aquatics center, Oscar P\u2019s Birthday Bash, May Fete and a daylong tailgate party celebrating the Texans\u2019 Purple and White spring football game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Silver Taps will feature remarks from Tarleton President Dr. James Hurley followed by laying the wreath, reading the Honor Roll, lighting the candles and a procession to recognize deceased members of the Tarleton family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Prayer of Remembrance will be followed by recitation of the 1902 Lily Pearl Chamberlin composition \u201cFounder\u2019s Song.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Texan Corps of Cadets will then escort the flame to the military memorial in Heritage Park as the Texan Troubadours perform the \u201cTarleton Color Song.\u201d A moment of silence will be observed for all to respect the evening\u2019s honorees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Near the military memorial a cadet standing adjacent to the symbolic Tarleton flame will give a salute, followed by a 21-gun salute and the playing of \u201cTaps\u201d as a tribute to Tarleton military veterans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ceremony concludes with all candles and flames being extinguished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tarleton students begin their academic program with the Freshman Convocation and Candle Lighting Ceremony when they receive their Tarleton flame. The flame is extinguished at Silver Taps to acknowledge their journey\u2019s completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
