STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 Amanda Mosher will tell her very personal story when she addresses attendees at Tarleton State University commencement exercises Dec. 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amanda, who\u2019s graduating with an MBA, gives her father credit for motivating her after some tough years back in Central Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her mother had died and Amanda had, in her words, \u201chit my rock bottom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe drove me to believe in myself,\u201d Amanda said of her dad. \u201cThanks to him I found my dreams again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Six years ago she moved to Granbury to be near him and build on the associate degree she\u2019d earned in Florida. To get her bachelor\u2019s in international business, she would need several face-to-face classes. Tarleton was nearby and fit the bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She buckled down and graduated in 2020 with plans to join the workforce. Then a university program helped keep her on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI was planning on going to work after getting my bachelor\u2019s, and I was offered the Continuing Graduate Student grant, a fast-track program for an MBA that just takes a year,\u201d she said. \u201cThat made all the difference in me staying to get my master\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In her speech Amanda, for the first time publicly, will detail how a Christmas 2015 letter from her father altered her life and eventually led to her college graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt the time, I didn\u2019t think I had any hopes or dreams left. But my father\u2019s words resonated somewhere deep within me. I took a hard look at my life, and I found the strength that I\u2019d needed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said she\u2019s confident in her new business acumen after her time at Tarleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI gained so much knowledge in the area of international exchange, and then, in my master\u2019s program, I became really interested in corporate strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s where her career appears headed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s what I want to do,\u201d she said, \u201ccorporate strategy or project management with a consulting firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amanda, a member of the National Dean\u2019s List Society and the National Collegiate Leadership Society, is excited about graduating, but there are aspects to her college experience she will miss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI really enjoyed doing the work, the research,\u201d she said. \u201cAll the learning and the growth that came with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
