{"id":40423,"date":"2021-11-08T10:43:00","date_gmt":"2021-11-08T16:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.tarleton.edu\/new-news\/?p=40423"},"modified":"2022-02-08T13:58:37","modified_gmt":"2022-02-08T19:58:37","slug":"in-person-tccj-workshop-returns-fills-in-record-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/in-person-tccj-workshop-returns-fills-in-record-time\/","title":{"rendered":"In-person TCCJ Workshop Returns, Fills in Record Time"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monday, November 8, 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>STEPHENVILLE, Texas \u2014 The Texas Center for Community Journalism (TCCJ), based at Tarleton State University, is again offering face-to-face sessions with community journalists throughout the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nov. 18 \u201cEye on Design\u201d workshop maxed out within 24 hours, a TCCJ record, according to Director Austin Lewter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo me, it\u2019s just proof positive that we are doing work that is needed,\u201d said Lewter, a communication studies Instructor. \u201cBecause of the pandemic, we placed workshops on hold and worked through virtual means. I think people are excited about being back in person.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Newspaper veterans Broc Sears, Robert Bohler and Lewter will lead the design workshop in the Texan News Service newsroom on the Stephenville campus. The workshop encompasses an array of digital and print concepts geared to give attendees tools to take back to their newsrooms and use immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lewter and Bohler have taken writing workshops to community newsrooms over the last couple of months. In&nbsp;Snyder they worked with writers from three Texas papers. Future workshops will be in Ozona and Atlanta, Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, Lewter spoke with students at the Texas A&amp;M College of Law on \u201cThe Sustainability of Local News.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was a wonderful time,\u201d he said. \u201cThe media law students were genuinely interested in the future of local news. It was inspiring.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TCCJ\u2019s spring workshops will include a Newspaper Management Bootcamp and a Community News Symposium. Details will be posted on the TCCJ Facebook page,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/communityjournalism\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/communityjournalism<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Texas Center for Community Journalism moved to Tarleton in 2020 and partners with the nonprofit Texas Newspaper Foundation to invest in sustainable community journalism.
