STEPHENVILLE, Texas\u2014Tarleton State University becomes the scene for a mock flu pandemic exercise and earthquake drill March 16 and 17 as public health, nursing and Medical Laboratory Science students gain true-to-life experience in emergency management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nThe two-day event takes place in the Nursing Building on the Stephenville campus under the direction of the Intermountain Center for Disaster Preparedness, with headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMock disaster exercises help students apply knowledge and skills gained in the classroom to real-world scenarios,\u201d explains Dr. Sally Hoger, assistant professor and director of Tarleton\u2019s Public Health program. \u201cStudents enhance interpersonal skills, learning to interact with health care and emergency management professionals, and increase their appreciation for the value of collaborative work during a public health crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Participants will be introduced to life-saving interventions as well as government response during a disaster. All Tarleton students, faculty and staff are welcome to observe the simulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
