FORT WORTH, Texas\u2014Registration is open to North Texas law enforcement professionals for Tarleton State University\u2019s free training on homicide investigation and cold cases set April 27 and 28 in Fort Worth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sponsored by Tarleton\u2019s School of Criminology, Criminal Justice and Strategic Studies, the two-day event\u2014\u201cCrime Scene Assessment: Murder Mayhem and Misunderstanding\u201d\u2014takes place at the Fort Worth Police Academy, 511 W. Felix St. Participants who attend both days will receive 16 hours of credit from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special instructors for the training are Richard Walter and Patrick Zirpoli, both members of The Vidocq Society. The society is comprised of 82 forensic specialists from around the world who assist criminal justice agencies in solving cold cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A scholar in residence at Oklahoma State University\u2019s School of Forensic Sciences, Walter is a founding member of The Vidocq Society. He retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections after more than 22 years as a prison psychologist. Walter is an international expert on crime assessment, profiling and risk evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zirpoli is retired from the Pennsylvania State Police, where he served as supervisor of the agency\u2019s criminal investigation assessment unit. During his career with the state police, he specialized in homicide and cold-case investigations as well as child abduction and abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is an unprecedented opportunity for officers, prosecutors, crime analysts, crime scene investigators\u2014all law enforcement professionals\u2014to receive training on violent crime investigation.\u201d said Dr. Katherine Brown, assistant professor of criminal justice, member of The Vidocq Society and nationally recognized expert on solving child-abduction murder cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
