STEPHENVILLE, Texas\u2014Tarleton State University launches its first Day of Giving at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, challenging 1,899 participants to pay it forward to students. The 1,899 goal celebrates the year Tarleton was founded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day of Giving is part of Texans Team Up, a full week of activities dedicated to the university\u2019s core value of service. The week kicks off Saturday, April 2, when students, faculty and staff help local residents with everything from washing windows to mowing lawns as part of a legendary event known as Round Up. On Thursday, April 7, classroom learning is tied to service opportunities in the university\u2019s first Service Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDay of Giving is a way for the entire university family\u2014including alumni, students, parents and friends\u2014to show support for Tarleton,\u201d said Jennifer Hawthorne, director of Development. \u201cThere is no minimum donation. Gifts are tax deductible and can be designated for any Tarleton college, program or organization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donations can be made online from 12:01 a.m. to 12:59 p.m. or at a drop-off station from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the plaza between the Barry B. Thompson Student Center and the Dining Hall. Tarleton\u2019s Jazz Ensembles perform at noon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alumni, students, faculty and staff are invited to have Coffee on the Island from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on the Day of Giving at the John Tarleton statue and to a Stephenville Chamber of Commerce mixer at 5 p.m. in the renovated Administration Building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDay of Giving is an exciting time for Tarleton,\u201d Hawthorne said. \u201cIt\u2019s a great way to build community and student support through scholarships and programming.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day of Giving concludes with a celebration at sunset Wednesday, April 6, and the Tarleton Smokestack will be lit in purple when donation 1,899 is received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
