STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University’s Communications Department teams up with the university’s food pantry and the city of Stephenville to host cooking demonstrations Thursday, April 7, in concert with the school’s first Service Day.<\/p>\n
Demonstrations take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in Room 386 of the O.A. Grant Humanities Building and focus on preparing wholesome, nutritious meals with a limited budget and kitchen setup. All members of the Tarleton community are welcome to attend the 30- to 45-minute demos.<\/p>\n
“Hunger is completely preventable,” said Communications Instructor Prairie Endres-Parnell. “Our campus has a responsibility to care for our students and keep their health and well-being at the forefront of our minds.”<\/p>\n
A collaboration of the university’s Student Success and Multicultural Initiatives, the Division of Student Life and off-campus groups—including H.O.P.E. Inc.— the Tarleton Food Pantry helps students stay enrolled and enjoy academic success without worrying about their next meal or whether to pay for one necessity or another.<\/p>\n
The pantry is located in the Barry B. Thompson Student Center and relies on donations of dorm-friendly food as well as money. Students receive 15 preselected items (three proteins, three sides, three fruits and\/or vegetables, three breakfast items and three snacks) along with a list of Stephenville churches and organizations serving free, hot meals. A student ID number is all that’s required.<\/p>\n
