Night at the Opera Series Continues<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STEPHENVILLE, Texas\u2014Step into the 1920s with the classic gangster film The<\/em> Public Enemy<\/em> at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23, as Tarleton State University\u2019s W.K. Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas continues its 2016 Night at the Opera series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Featuring James Cagney and Jean Harlow, the film tells the story of a young man\u2019s rise in the criminal underworld in prohibition-era urban America. The film was directed by William A. Wellman and based on a never-published novel by two former street thugs\u2014\u201cBeer and Blood\u201d by John Bright and Kubec Glasmon\u2014who witnessed some of Al Capone\u2019s murderous gang rivalries in Chicago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no charge; however, seating is limited. Reservations are requested. Free refreshments will be served at intermission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The W.K. Gordon Center, a Tarleton museum and research facility located in the historic ghost town of Thurber, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.
