{"id":30415,"date":"2016-08-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-08-26T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.tarleton.edu\/news\/tarletons-fall-2016-enrollment-largest-ever-the-whole-familys-here\/"},"modified":"2022-05-10T08:49:48","modified_gmt":"2022-05-10T14:49:48","slug":"tarletons-fall-2016-enrollment-largest-ever-the-whole-familys-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/tarletons-fall-2016-enrollment-largest-ever-the-whole-familys-here\/","title":{"rendered":"Tarleton&#8217;s fall 2016 enrollment largest ever; the whole family&#8217;s here"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2021\/11\/image-2129.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tarleton.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2021\/11\/image-2129-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"The Whole Family Is Here!\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Whole Family Is Here!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<br>Friday, August 26, 2016<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>STEPHENVILLE, Texas\u2014Tarleton State University boasts its largest enrollment ever with more than 13,000 students signed up for fall 2016 classes in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Midlothian and online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fall 2016 numbers represent a 6-percent increase over last year and a 12-percent growth over two years ago, marking the fifth consecutive year Tarleton has set a record for total enrollment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of Tarleton\u2019s 2,200 freshmen\u2014the largest first-year class in university history\u2014moved into their home-away-from-home this past weekend on the Stephenville campus for a week of activities that prepare them for their college experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If enrollment momentum continues through the university\u2019s official start on Monday, Aug. 29, Tarleton-Fort Worth could see a 6.5-percent growth\u2014with more than 1,800 students\u2014and Tarleton-Waco could surpass 1,000, a 3-percent increase over fall 2015. Enrollment at Tarleton-Midlothian is expected to top 300 students and the Global Campus 600.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFall 2016 marks another milestone in the incredible story of Tarleton State University,\u201d said President F. Dominic Dottavio. \u201cIt\u2019s clear that Tarleton is fast becoming a university of choice for students looking for a real-world, high-quality university experience. Our students tell us time and time again that our expert faculty, personal attention, friendly atmosphere, traditions, and core values are defining characteristics of Tarleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cStudents come from all over Texas and from around the globe,\u201d he said. \u201cEntire families\u2014parents and their children\u2014are pursuing their university education together at Tarleton.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carmen Noles, her three children and a nephew, along with Neil and Jody Waddell and son Benjamin are ready to start fall classes at Tarleton. The Waddell\u2019s oldest son Matthew plans to join them next spring after graduation from the Fort Worth Police Academy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carmen, Neil, Jody and Benjamin are enrolled at Tarleton-Fort Worth, while Carmen\u2019s children\u2014Rudy and Joseph Puente and Jennifer Gonzalez\u2014and nephew, Daniel Raya, will take classes on the Stephenville campus and online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Waddell family graduated together from Tarrant County College this spring, with their minds already set on transferring to Tarleton to complete their degrees. Neil, Jody and Benjamin, 19, will study business, and Matthew, 21, will major in psychology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere was never any question about where we\u2019d continue our education,\u201d said Jody, who works as a self-taught accountant for a defense company. \u201cWith Fort Worth and global campuses, Tarleton is a perfect fit for the entire family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI grew up participating in high school 4-H activities at the Stephenville campus and fell in love with it. When I heard there was a Fort Worth location, I didn\u2019t have to think twice about enrolling at Tarleton.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jody and Neil\u2019s pursuit of a university education started with a push for their children to earn undergraduate degrees and Matthew\u2019s inquiry about why they had to go to college when their parents hadn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe eliminated that excuse right away,\u201d explained Neil, a real estate agent, \u201cand decided to enroll with the kids. I wouldn\u2019t ask someone to do something I wasn\u2019t willing to do myself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carmen Noles\u2019 oldest son, Rudy Puente Jr., 19, was the first in his family to enroll at Tarleton. He\u2019s a sophomore music education major and member of the university\u2019s marching band, <em>The Sound &amp; The Fury<\/em>. With Rudy\u2019s encouragement, younger brother Joseph, 18, enrolled this fall as a first-year student in Stephenville with plans to pursue a bachelor\u2019s degree in wildlife sustainability and ecosystem science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, Joseph and Rudy convinced their mother to enroll at the university\u2019s Fort Worth location\u2014not far from where she teaches first grade as a bilingual elementary school teacher\u2014to earn a master\u2019s degree in curriculum and instruction. Their older sister, Jennifer, is signed up for graduate classes in public administration via Tarleton\u2019s Global Campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen my nephew heard we\u2019d all enrolled at Tarleton for the fall, he decided to transfer from Texas A&amp;M-Kingsville to make our pursuit of a higher education a true family affair,\u201d Carmen explained, \u201cand there\u2019s a strong possibility that others will join us next spring or summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTarleton is the perfect place for an entire family to learn and grow together,\u201d Carmen said. \u201cThe university\u2019s standards and values reflect those I\u2019ve tried to instill in my children.
