The Lone Star Coaches bus service discontinues, effective today.

On Sept. 26, the university’s free shuttle bus returns through City and Rural Rides (CARR) to serve The Grove and Mustang Ranch apartment complexes and the Tarleton shuttle bus stop adjacent to the tennis courts and Traditions South on West Sloan Street.

Tarleton, in cooperation with Central Texas Rural Transit District, will offer shuttle service Monday through Friday in order to reduce the number of vehicles on campus, while encouraging public transportation as an option for commuting students.

Shuttle service, which provides handicap accessibility, is offered at no charge to all passengers. The bus is equipped with a bicycle rack for students who would like to pedal on campus after arriving.

Two shuttles will be in service Monday through Thursday during peak hours. On Fridays, one shuttle will be in service. Hours of service are: Shuttle 1 – Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Shuttle 2 – Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Shuttle 3 – Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The shuttle bus is expected to arrive at pick-up and drop-off locations every 15 minutes, with the route repeating at :00, :15, :30 and :45 of each hour. Shuttle stops last one minute before each departure.

Passengers may track the shuttles as each bus is equipped with GPS-enabled Ride Systems tracking, providing real-time information regarding shuttle location and estimated arrival times using a free mobile app that delivers information via smart phones, tablets or Internet-connected computers.

“In an ongoing effort to meet the needs of our student body, faculty and staff, and to make transportation, in and around Tarleton State University more accessible, we agreed this was the optimal solution for commuters to campus,” said Director of University Police and Parking Matt Welch. “This is a great step forward because it helps strengthen our overall goal of safety and service around the campus and provides a more user-friendly method when commuting to Tarleton from off-campus housing.”

Passengers may visit www.TarletonStateUniversityShuttle.com to view the route map and location of the shuttles in real-time, and see approximate arrival times at stops along the routes that serve the off-campus apartment complexes.

Each shuttle is equipped with GPS tracking, which sends its location every five seconds to provide real-time information to passengers. When viewing the route map on a mobile device or web browser, shuttle locations are depicted as color-coded dots and may appear with an arrow to show the shuttle’s direction of travel or a square “stop” icon to denote that the shuttle has stopped to load or unload passengers.

To download the free Tarleton Shuttle Service tracking app, visit the Google Play or iTunes store and search “Ride Systems.” The app is compatible on Android, iPhone and Windows phones. Once the mobile app is downloaded to a device, select “Tarleton State University” to begin tracking the Tarleton Shuttle Service.

Prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, shuttles will end service at 1 p.m., Nov. 23. On Dec. 14, the shuttle service will end at 6:30 p.m. ahead of the winter break. No service will be scheduled during Tarleton’s Day of Service on April 6 or on Good Friday, April 14.

For more information about Tarleton’s shuttle service, contact the Office of Parking Services at 254-968-9001.

Tarleton, a member of The Texas A&M University System, provides a student-focused, value-driven educational experience marked by academic innovation and exemplary service, and dedicated to transforming students into tomorrow’s professional leaders.
