Tarleton\u201ds Department of Fine Arts Presents<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday, November 22, 2016<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STEPHENVILLE, Texas\u2014Selections from Handel\u2019s Messiah<\/em>, the well-known oratorio foretelling Christ\u2019s birth and featuring the magnificent \u201cHallelujah Chorus,\u201d will be performed at Tarleton State University on Saturday, Dec. 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tarleton choral program and Cross Timbers Civic Chorale, accompanied by the Tarleton Masterworks Orchestra, will sing at 7:30 p.m. in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center auditorium. Tickets are $15 and go on sale at the Fine Arts Center Box Office at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The concert also will feature beloved carols, including What Child is This<\/em>, Carol of the Bells<\/em>, God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen<\/em>, and I Saw Three Ships<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year marks the 37th annual masterworks performance on the Stephenville campus. In all, more than 130 musicians will combine for this holiday tradition, all under the direction of Dr. Troy Robertson, Tarleton\u2019s director of choirs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Composed in 1741 and based on Biblical text, \u201cHandel\u2019s Messiah<\/em> occupies a special place in music in that it is such a cornerstone masterwork, a piece to which we return again and again,\u201d said Robertson. \u201cFor many of us, singing choruses like \u2018For Unto us a Child is Born\u2019 or \u2018Hallelujah\u2019 feels like going home each holiday. Certainly our collection of carols feels that way, and we hope our audience will share in that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
