Tarleton Centennial Celebration Exhibit<\/p>\n

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University’s yearlong celebration marking 100 years as a founding member of the Texas A&M University System kicks off Monday, Jan. 23, with an exhibit of historical items dating back to 1917 in the gallery of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center.<\/p>\n

The free exhibit, including photographs, documents and other artifacts—some on display for the first time—will be open to the public through Saturday, Jan. 28. Exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n

A reception begins at 4 p.m. on opening day.<\/p>\n

Items for the centennial exhibit highlight Tarleton’s history since joining the A&M System and chronicle the university’s growth over the past century. The exhibit includes artifacts from Dick Smith Library archives, photos provided by the Cross Timbers Historic Images Project, records from the Grassburr<\/em>—the university’s official yearbook—and J-TAC News, <\/em>the school’s student-run newspaper,<\/em> as well as items on loan from various Tarleton departments.<\/p>\n

In addition to images, documents and artifacts from Tarleton’s early history, the exhibit traces the evolution of the school’s Stephenville campus and offers a look at student life during the past 100 years. Early military uniforms worn by cadets and other regalia will be on display.<\/p>\n

The exhibit is one of several public activities planned during Tarleton’s yearlong centennial celebration honoring the people and events responsible for creating one of the fastest growing universities in the nation.<\/p>\n
