STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Purchase a raffle ticket or two to support Tarleton State University’s College of Liberal and Fine Arts study aboard programs, and you could win a private house concert with “blue-collar balladeer” Bart Crow.<\/p>\n

A Tarleton alumnus, Crow grew up in Maypearl, Texas, and made his first attempts at song writing during a stint with the U.S. Army. <\/p>\n

He maintains strong ties to Tarleton, and believes in giving back to support students. Crow has agreed to raffle a private house concert to help defer the cost of the travel-to-study opportunities.<\/p>\n

Raffle tickets are $10 each or three for $25 and can be purchased from Tarleton professors Drs. Marcy Tanter, Cecilia Marrugo-Puello, Ivelisse Urban and Tara Shelley, Instructor Casey Heath and their study abroad students.<\/p>\n

One winner will be drawn April 4 in concert with Tarleton’s 2017 Day of Giving, when students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, friends and business unite to pay it forward. Proceeds will count toward the day’s total monetary contributions.<\/p>\n

Study abroad programs for summer 2017 include opportunities to explore South Korean popular culture in Seoul; criminal justice in the Czech Republic and Scotland, and Spanish immersion programs in Colombia and Spain.<\/p>\n

“Study abroad programs help students expand their world view, broaden their horizons and make professional connections around the globe,” said Tanter, professor of English and languages, who will lead the four-week trip to Seoul in late June and early July.<\/p>\n

“Unfortunately, these programs often cost several thousand dollars—an amount most students can’t afford without some financial help.”<\/p>\n

With money pulled from his own pockets, Crow has put together an admirable track record as a recording artist, having lofted six No. 1 singles onto the Texas Music Chart—one of which, “Wear My Ring,” sold more than 165,000 copies. He’s sold more than 40,000 albums, released five self-produced projects in just over a decade, including Dandelion<\/em>, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s<\/em> Heartseekers-South Central chart. He’s been cheered in Country Weekly <\/em>magazine and on CMT.<\/p>\n

Crow’s most recent project, The Parade<\/em>, is familiar to all Americans who know what it means to survive challenging times.<\/p>\n
