STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University students take to the community this Thursday, April 6, for the school’s second Service Day. More than 100 service opportunities—everything from teaching senior citizens computer basics to completing free tax returns for qualified individuals—are on the “to do” list.<\/p>\n

The day is part of a full week of activities dedicated to the university’s core value of service.<\/p>\n

Service Day is part of efforts by Tarleton’s Center for Academic Outreach and Engagement (AOE) to build a culture of social responsibility by connecting academic programs with community needs. Many Service Day opportunities qualify as Applied Learning Experiences for Tarleton students.<\/p>\n

Last year, more than 3,600 students volunteered some 12,000 hours as part of Tarleton’s Service Day.<\/p>\n
