STEPEHNVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University’s second Day of Giving raised $225,441 to pay it forward for students, surpassing the 2016 total of $141,000 by more than $84,000.<\/p>\n

The 24-hour event took place April 4, when alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff and friends made tax-deductible donations and pledges to the Tarleton college, program or scholarship of their choice. Donations were collected online and at drop-off locations on the Stephenville campus as well as outreach locations in Fort Worth, Midlothian and Waco.<\/p>\n

“This is an impressive success for Tarleton and speaks to the generosity of the entire university family as well as the confidence that organizations and businesses have in the high quality of education we provide our students,” said President F. Dominic Dottavio. “We appreciate every gift—regardless of size—and sincerely thank all who gave.”<\/p>\n

All total, 469 donors contributed 618 gifts to benefit 128 student programs, academic departments, Tarleton colleges and scholarships.<\/p>\n

First National Bank of Granbury donated $26,250—expected to generate $1,250 annually—to endow scholarships for Tarleton students, and SSC Services for Education made a long-term commitment to donate $30,000 to support engineering and engineering technology scholarships. The university also received an initial $11,000 gift from the Texas Floodplain Management Association to establish the Gilbert Ward Memorial Hydrology\/Hydraulics Endowed Scholarship.<\/p>\n

Tarleton-Fort Worth students established a fund for ongoing donations to enhance the first building planned for the university’s new campus on the Chisholm Trail Parkway, and students at centers in Waco and Midlothian launched campaigns for endowed scholarships for future learners.<\/p>\n

“I am truly astonished by this year’s outpouring of generosity, and very thankful,” said Tarleton Development Director Jennifer Hawthorne. “We have good reason to celebrate.”<\/p>\n

Day of Giving is part of the school’s annual Week of Service, a full week of activities dedicated to helping others. Day of Giving drew huge social media attention, with more than 8,000 “likes” or “views” on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and SnapChat.<\/p>\n
