Night at the Opera House<\/p>\n

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University’s W.K. Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas presents a free screening of the 1934 classic “It Happened One Night” as part of a Night at the Opera House set for Saturday, April 29.<\/p>\n

The screening begins at 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s theater in the historic ghost town of Thurber. Free refreshments will be served at intermission.<\/p>\n

Produced by Columbia Pictures and directed by Frank Capra, the romantic comedy stars Claudette Colbert, a pampered socialite who tries to get out from under her father’s thumb and falls in love with a roguish reporter—played by Clark Gable—on a madcap cross-country tour. The plot is based on the 1933 short story “Night Bus” by Samuel Hopkins Adams.<\/p>\n

“It Happened One Night” was the first film to win all five Academy Awards—best picture, director, actor, actress and screenplay. The movie is included in the U.S. National Film Registry.<\/p>\n

The W.K. Gordon Center, a Tarleton museum and research facility, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.
