Tarleton Announces New Associate Vice President<\/p>\n

Thursday, April 20, 2017<\/p>\n

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Dr. Rusty Freed has been selected associate vice president of Tarleton State University’s outreach and off-campus programs following an extensive search.<\/p>\n

Tarleton operates outreach centers in Fort Worth, Waco and Midlothian as well as a Global Campus that offers more than 20 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.<\/p>\n

Freed began his career at Tarleton in 1986 as an adjunct instructor in the College of Business Administration, advancing to executive director of the university’s Academic Advising Center in 2012. He replaces Dr. Kim Rynearson who returned to Tarleton’s College of Education last fall as head of the Department of Psychological Sciences.<\/p>\n

“Dr. Freed has proven to be an effective, collaborative and visionary leader,” said Tarleton Provost Dr. Karen Murray. “His past experiences uniquely qualify him to help us provide an academically challenging education to the residents of Texas and beyond.”<\/p>\n

Freed served as director of Tarleton’s Small Business Development Center from 1987 to 1995 before becoming head of the College of Business Administration’s Department of Management, Marketing and Administrative Systems and coordinator for off-campus programs. He was instrumental in planning and executing business programs at Tarleton’s Waco center on the campus of McLennan Community College as well as online graduate and bachelor’s degree completion programs.<\/p>\n

“I am truly honored to be selected to lead Tarleton’s outreach and off-campus programs,” Freed said. “Dr. Rynearson provided outstanding leadership and assembled an excellent team during her tenure in this position. I look forward to working with these professionals, university leaders, faculty and staff—in collaboration with our community partners—to expand educational opportunities for current and future Tarleton Texans.”<\/p>\n

Freed holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Tarleton and earned his doctorate of education from the University of North Texas at Denton.<\/p>\n
